Obituary

Martha Marilyn (Marti) Schmidt was received into her Heavenly Father's arms on October 25, 2024 after a long, fulfilling and loving life.

Marti was born on November 2, 1932 in Cleveland, OH. The family moved to La Mesa, CA in the 1940s. There she met her beloved husband, Werner Schmidt of 55 years. They built their first home in La Mesa in 1952 and lived there their entire lives. Together they had three children, nine grandchildren and eighteen (and one on the way) great grandchildren.

Marti worked as an office clerk for the county of San Diego. She made many lifelong friends there. She also worked as a lifeguard at the YMCA and taught the infant swim classes there. During the summer months, she held swim lessons for the neighborhood children. She was a devout Christian and was involved in her church's activities, choir, youth group and volunteer work with her husband by her side.

When she and her husband retired, they purchased a motorhome and toured the country. They also enjoyed cruising all over the world. This was something Marti continued to do after the death of her husband.

Marti also decided to go to clown school. There she learned how to do the makeup, costume and balloon twisting. Her clown name was 'Snappy'. She enjoyed walking in parades with her grandchildren.

Marti was an amazing Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She looked forward to spending time with her family and took an active role in all of their lives.

She was preceded in death by her husband Werner and is survived by their children Cindy Schmidt of Ramona, Lon and his wife Cheryl Schmidt of La Mesa, Jon and his wife Jennifer Schmidt of Lemon Grove. She has nine Grandchildren, Breanne, Jacob, Steven, Lindsay, Kirsten, Mark, Amanda, Heidi and Larry. She has eighteen Great Grandchildren and one on the way. She is also survived by her Brother David Schumaker of Redlands, sister Nancy and her husband Gary Grant of Lakewood and sister-in-law Carol Schmidt along with many adored nieces and nephews.

Marti was a beacon of kindness and love. She touched the lives of so many people. Everyone who knew her loved her. She will truly be missed and remain in our hearts forever.

As a woman of faith, Marti wished to have a celebration of eternal life promised to all of us through Jesus Christ our Savior.
