She passed away peacefully, at home, with family at her side. Mary was married for 40 years to Lt. Colonel, Leonard J. Comaratta, USMC (Ret), of Dunmore, Pennsylvania, (d. 2010). In the wake of her husband’s cancer diagnosis, Mary became an advocate for cancer patients and survivors, channeling her passion for handcrafts and crocheting into making caps, scarves, blankets for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. After his passing, she led bereavement groups to assist others in their times of mourning.

Devoted to her faith, Mary was a long-time member of San Rafael Catholic Parish in Rancho Bernardo, performing a variety of roles in support of her community, including Women’s Fellowship and Veronica’s Ladies. She was a multiple time honoree of the Matthew 25 award, recognizing her dedication and service both to her faith and her community.

As a member of the Rancho Bernardo Republican Women, Mary was awarded a Certificate of Recognition by the County of San Diego as well as a Special Commendation by the City of San Diego for her volunteer service.
