Mary Genevieve "Gen" Simonis was born in Rensselaer, Indiana, to Ernestine and Louis Moosemiller. She grew up in Rensselaer, and during World War II she traveled to Gary, Indiana to work in the steel mills.  After the war, she married Robert "Bob" Simonis, a young Marine.  As a career Marine family,  they were stationed in many areas of the country during  their 60-year marriage.  After Bob retired they settled in San Diego.  Gen was a quintessential Marine Corps officer's wife and proud of her role. Her beloved family was her priority.

Gen was active in her church, enjoyed crafts, baking, travel, and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Paul, her sisters, Irene and Agnes, and her beloved husband, Bob. She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Lawrence L. and Sandra Simonis, Kathleen and Harold Phillips, Andrea and Larry Broding, Robert B. and Wendy Simonis, and Richard S. and Felicia Simonis. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Lauren, Andrew, and Juniper Simonis; David and Kevin Phillips; Mary and Paul Broding; and Nate Simonis as well as her twelve  great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service and Mass will be held at 10:30 Am on Wednesday July 10  at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 11451 Blue Cypress Dr. San Diego, CA 92131.  The service will be live streamed.   There will be a reception following the Mass in the Church Hall.  Interment with be private.
