Obituary

Ms. Mildred B. Hoge passed away peacefully on December 1, 2020 in San Diego, California.

Millie, as she was known to her friends, was born Mildred Grace Bowman in El Paso, Texas on March 31, 1942. Millie lived in Deming, New Mexico and Yuma, Arizona as a child. She graduated from the University of Southern California in 1964 with a Bachelor's of Science in Education.

As a young mother Millie volunteered her time supporting her local school district until she was hired as an instructional media supervisor. In this position she was honored for her outstanding achievements and contributions to the Walnut Valley Unified School District by the YWCA. She later worked for the Los Angeles County Office of Education as a computer consultant.

Her professional career continued to focus on serving her community. She worked for former Assemblyman Bill Lancaster, State Senator Ray Haynes, State Senator James Brulte and Supervisors Aguiar and Ovit. She finished her career as the first ever Community Liaison for the City of Chino in 2007.

After her retirement Millie moved to Rancho Bernardo to be closer to her family. She decided to slow down and spend time with her grandson, Nathan Gilbert. She also volunteered her time to the Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church where she served as an usher and also as a cashier at the Church's Thrift Store.

Millie is survived by her daughters Mimi Atkinson and Caroline Gilbert, her son-in-law John Gilbert, and her grandson Nathan Gilbert (her favorite).
