Nita Sharp
Lineberger
August 31, 1937 – December 9, 2022
Nita Sharp Lineberger, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away December 9, 2022, at the age of 85 in San Diego, California. Nita began her life as a farm girl on the plains of Colorado as the daughter of Coe and Rachel Sharp and the oldest sibling to Carol, Clifford and Donald.
She later left her home for Denver where she attended business school and soon began her first secretarial job. It was during her time in Denver that she met and caught the eye her future husband, Lewis Lineberger, a civil engineering student from North Carolina State working on a summer job. Lew returned to school that fall and eventually graduated from NC State and began work in Marietta, Georgia. Nita packed up and traveled across the country to join him where the two were soon married.
A little over a year later their family grew with the addition of their daughter Debbie and four years later with Teresa. Son Lane rounded out the family seven years later. For a few years, Lew and Nita expanded the family for various foster children in need of a temporary home with support and love.
The first three decades of Lew's career kept the family in Marietta where they were devoted members in the community of faith at Fair Oaks UMC. Lew and Nita eventually moved several times in support of his work with Lockheed sending them to Santa Clarita and Lancaster California, Fort Worth Texas, and Owego New York. The couple eventually retired to Troutman North Carolina. In each new home they planted roots by settling into a church community that involved them with small group and bible study ministries. The various churches included Highlands, Grace Community, Lancaster Baptist, Lake City Church, and Trinity San Diego.
Nita was a loving homemaker who enjoyed reading, sewing, travel, music, and her family. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is well remembered for her gift of hospitality – opening her home and hearth with a smile and good food. It was not uncommon for guests to be invited home or dining out for Sunday dinner after church.
Nita was preceded in death by her daughter Teresa, who lost her battle with breast cancer at the age of 52. Nita is survived by her siblings; sister Carol Bartels and brothers Clifford and Donald Sharp; by her children Debbie Townsend and husband, Bill; Lane Lineberger and wife, Cherryse; and her grandchildren Pete and Molly Townsend as well as Lewis, Charisma, and Joy Lineberger.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at Trinity San Diego Church in Poway, California on Thursday December 15, 2022 at 1 pm PST with Pastor Bob Maddux officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made Trinity San Diego Missions, 14047 Twin Peaks Road, Poway, CA 92064. She will be laid to rest at Iredell Memorial Park in Statesville, North Carolina.
