Pierre Kong
Phoeun
August 10, 1950 – September 2, 2023
Pierre K. Phoeun of Poway, California, passed away peacefully at his home in the early morning of September 2, 2023, due to kidney failure. He was surrounded by his family.
Pierre was born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on August 10, 1950, and immigrated to the United States in the 1970s, arriving by Pan Am airlines. He was granted political asylum. He lived with an American Sponsor in El Cajon for about 2 years while he went to a trade school to become an electronic technician. His first job was at Sony Corporation in Rancho Bernardo. He was eventually promoted to senior engineering technician and was employed there for 25 years. He also met his wife, Linda, at Sony and they were married in 1981. They eventually adopted a child from Cambodia, their lovely daughter, Chandinet ("Dinet").
Pierre was a caring, warm-hearted person who enjoyed helping others. He would tutor students in math on his free time, give them advice on test-taking, and be a mentor to them, giving career advice in general. He wanted people to be the best they could be, to be persistent, and not stop trying until they reached their goals in life.
We are so saddened by the loss of Pierre that we cannot fathom how our hearts will ever heal, but at least we can find solace in the fact that he touched the lives of many people in such a positive way.
Pierre is survived by his wife, Linda Phoeun of Poway, CA; daughter Chandinet Phoeun of Poway; brother-in-law Joseph M. Hawks of San Marcos, CA; nephew John Michael-Christian Hawks, of Escondido, CA, and many siblings in Cambodia.
