Obituary

"Prudencia Nicolas Samson - or as her family called her, “Nanay” - was born on April 27, 1927 in Norzagaray, Bulacan, Philippines, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026 in Poway, California, surrounded by her loving family. She lived a remarkable 99 years.

Prudencia was a strong, fearless, and fiercely independent woman who always spoke her mind, unapologetically honest. She said what needed to be said, and those who knew her learned to appreciate her honesty, because beneath that bold spirit was a heart that was always ready to help. She was the family's advisor, healer, and guiding light: quick with advice, life lessons, and home remedies for any ailment her loved ones brought to her door. She was the matriarch whose presence filled a room and whose advice carried weight - she was truly a major pillar of the family.

A true entrepreneur, Prudencia built and ran her own furniture business in Norzagaray. There, she raised her family alongside her beloved husband, Pedro, in their home, lovingly called “Calumpang”, which they built from the ground up. Together they raised eight successful children: Luchie, Nenette, Elenita (+), Prudencia Jr., Marcelino, Herminigilda, Madonna, and Aurora. In 1989, with the help of Elenita, she and her husband migrated to the United States. Their migration later allowed for six of their children in the Philippines to follow, building better lives for their entire family. Prudencia and Pedro always wanted the best for the well-being of everyone in their family.

Prudencia found joy in life's simple pleasures: tending to her plants, sewing with her precious sewing machine, singing, and settling in to watch Filipino dramas and game shows. So much so that it made her a night owl, staying up till 5AM catching the latest episode.

She leaves behind her seven children: Luchie, Nenette, Prudencia Jr., Marcelino, Herminigilda, Madonna, and Aurora; 19 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry her spirit, her strength, and her tough love in their hearts forever. She has reunited in heaven with her husband Pedro and their daughter Elenita.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten."
