Ralph D. Anderson, JR. MD died of natural causes February 15, 2020 at his home in Scripps Ranch. Born October 12,1929, he is survived by his wife Lisa Richards, and children Mark, Kurt & Brad.
Dr. Anderson served in the US Air Force 1950 to 1952. He received both BA degree (1953) and an MD degree (1957) from Wayne State University. Completed an Ophthalmology Residency at Kresge Eye Institute in 1960. Following his training Dr. Anderson moved to San Diego, where he established and managed a successful practice for over 3 decades.
Dr. Anderson was an acclaimed eye surgeon. A pioneer in lens implant surgery for patients with cataracts, he performed his first lens implant operation in 1969. In addition, he established the first ophthalmic outpatient surgery center in California. A founding member of the American Intra-Ocular Implant Society, now known as the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and Co Chairman of the organization's first clinical meeting.
