Obituary

April 17, 1925 - February 14, 2019 World War II veteran, Ralph Puhalovich, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all, passed away after suffering a stroke February 14, 2019 at the age of 93. Ralph was born in and raised in Oakland, CA living with his mother Flora, father Ivan, brother John, and sister Marie. The neighbor who lived behind him, Louise Campanella, would end up being his wife many years later. He graduated from Oakland High School and entered the US Army as an infantryman, serving for 2 1/2 years in the First Division (The Big Red One). Major battles in which he fought were D-Day, Battle of the Bulge and Hurtgen Forest.  He was the recipient of multiple bronze stars and purple hearts. After the service he attended College of Marin followed by the University of California at Berkeley where he studied architecture. His father's passing interrupted his studies and he worked at various companies, until he found his calling… draftsman. He spent the majority of his professional career at DW Nicholson where he worked for 20+ years as a Chief Estimating Manager.

Ralph was a man of many hobbies….photographer, archer, handyman, artist, and avid golfer. He kept meticulous notes on each golf course he played, his photo albums and stamp collections were well organized, but his true passion was building things. In the early seventies he built a future retirement home on Brentwood Lake in Twain Harte, California. Over the next 15 years that small dwelling morphed into a beautiful house that would shelter them for the next 25 years.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 67 years, Louise, daughter Karen, her husband, Scott and their 3 sons: Wesley Moehlenbruck (wife Sarah, grandchildren Anaylah, Jaxon), Derek Moehlenbruck (wife Fernanda, grandchilden Eleazar, Marjan, Luis), and Andrew Crowson (wife Michaela), son Mark Puhalovich, his wife Barbara Jean Huff, her son Kris Taylor (grandchildren, Austin, Faith, Chandler, Kristlyn) along with numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Ralph's services were held at the Poway, Bernardo Mortuary where Louise was presented with the flag from the honor guard. Private interment will be held at Miramar National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
