Rebecca L. May of Rancho Bernardo entered into eternal rest on August 22, 2019.  She was 92.

Rebecca (Becky) was born March 27, 1927, in Mobile, Alabama, where she was raised with her two sisters and two brothers. Becky met the love of her life, Henry May, in Mobile. Becky and Henry had a son (Michael) and soon after followed her family and job opportunities to New York. Becky found work that was a perfect match for her kind and caring heart as a nurse's aide at Blythedale Children's Hospital. Becky used her humor, genuine love of people and positive attitude to care for children with disabilities. Becky retired from Blythedale and moved back to Mobile with her husband, living there until his death in 2003. Becky parted from a strong church community of friends in Mobile and relocated to San Diego to live near her son, daughter-in-law and three grandchildren.

Becky enjoyed dancing, singing, baking, canning and planting flowers, especially flowers that seemed hopeless. She was a devout Catholic and servant of the church. She was active in church wherever she lived, serving as a member of the choir, Legion of Mary and Eucharistic Minister to the homebound.

Becky was preceded in death by her mother Cora Dixon, father Fortune Sheffield, sisters Margaret and Mary Sheffield, brother A.C. "Jeff" Gamble, and husband Henry May. She is survived by her son Michael, daughter-in-law Stephanie, grandchildren Maya, Elijah and Makayla, brother Ladell "Sonny" Davidson, and numerous nephews and nieces.
