October 14, 1938 – March 25, 2025
Richard Blezard, of Rancho Bernardo, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He had 86 wonderful years of life. He was born on October 14, 1938 in Springfield, Massachusetts, son of the late Ernest and Elizabeth Blezard. He grew up in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, graduating from West High School. He then joined the Air Force and married his high school sweetheart, Claire Fregeau. At the conclusion of his military service, He attended Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island, and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting in 1963. He began working for the Defense Department upon graduation. He later earned a Master's Degree from Central Michigan State University and spent his career managing numerous Defense Contract Audit Agency Offices in Hawaii and on the East Coast. His greatest joy was spending time with his family especially his 7 grandchildren on the beaches, parks, ballfields, and hiking trails in Southern California and New England. In his retirement years, the weather drew him to relocate permanently to Rancho Bernardo in San Diego, where he spent his days playing tennis, bike riding, hiking, attending sporting events, reading, traveling, and socializing with family and friends. Richard was predeceased by his son-in-law Eric Alejandro. He leaves behind his loving wife of 66 years, Claire; 4 children and 7 grandchildren: Susan Miller and her husband Doug of Poway, CA and their three sons, John, Matthew and Kenny; Michael Blezard and his wife Michelle of Boca Raton, FL and their two children Brendan and Jessica (Jason) Green; Karen Alejandro of San Diego, CA and her daughter Jennifer; David Blezard and his wife Mary Jean of Salem, CT and their son Justin. In addition he leaves behind 2 great-granddaughters Ella and Mia Green of Boca Raton, FL and 6 nieces and nephews in various cities/towns on the east coast.
Service will be held at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive San Diego, CA 92122 on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at 11 am. Reception immediately following service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wreaths Across America.
