Richard Douglas
Cook
April 1, 1948 – February 12, 2023
Richard "Rich" Douglas Cook was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2023 after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. Richard was 74 years old.
He was born April 1, 1948 in Poplar Bluff, MO to Geraldine Mathis and biological father Eugene Cook. His beloved dad, Guy Robert Tackitt, married his mother when Richard was an infant. In 1950, Rich's family moved to CA before settling down in Santa Clara in 1956.
Rich graduated from Adrian C. Wilcox High School of Santa Clara, CA in 1966. He met the love of his life, Nancy Zorker, who he married on February 11, 1969.
Rich served two years for the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After discharge from the Army, Rich received an Associate's Degree in Business and pursued his career in Computer Sales & Marketing, and later as an International Vice President. His success in business can be directly attributed to his work ethic and his natural ability in recognizing opportunities.
Rich's greatest devotion was to his family. He enjoyed family trips and vacations, which always included water, sand, snow and anything adventurous. Rich also had a passion for fishing, and enjoyed each catch. He took pride in balancing family time with his career.
Rich and Nancy relocated to San Diego, CA in 1998 to continue various job opportunities and hobbies, and to be close to immediate family nearby.
Rich is survived by his wife Nancy Cook of San Diego, his daughter and son-in-law, Richelle & Kevin Hazlett, his two grandsons, Kyle & Tyler Hazlett of San Diego, CA, his son and daughter-in-law, Ron & Sophia Cook, his three grandchildren, Stephen, Samantha and Veronica Cook of Dorris, CA, his oldest brother, Michael Cook and his wife Lori of Carlsbad, CA, and his youngest brother, James Tackitt and his wife Cheryl of San Jose, CA.
Rich was laid to rest on March 1, 2023 at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, CA.
Rich will live in our hearts… his memory will forever be with us, and he will always be loved.
