Richard J. Crepeau, age 63, of Boone, North Carolina, died peacefully Tuesday evening, November 4, 2025. He was surrounded by his loving family in San Diego, California. Richard was born October 28, 1962 in Fullerton, California.
Rich was a professor of Geography and Planning at Appalachian State University for 22 years. He was a founding member and bass guitarist of the band The Worthless Son-in-Laws. He was also a former member and Chair of the Town of Boone's Board of Adjustment. Rich was known for his dedication to teaching, sharp sense of humor, passion for music and deep commitment to his community and friends.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife Kathryn L. Crepeau and father Philip Crepeau. He is survived by his daughter, Laurel Crepeau, mother Patricia Crepeau, brother John Crepeau, three sisters Michelle Yancey, Marie Ricci and Nicole Crepeau, six nieces and four nephews.
A gathering for the celebration of Rich's life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Valle Crucis Community Park, PO Box 581, Valle Crucis, NC 28691. Online condolences may be sent to the Crepeau family at powaybernardomortuary.net.
