Obituary

Rudolph William Jarrell

Jul. 7, 1929 – Jun. 15, 2022

Rudolph (Red) Jarrell passed away at his home in Poway, with family by his side.  He spent his final days, as he wished, watching Nascar and listening to Bluegrass music.

Rudy was born on July 7 th , 1929 in Mount Airy, (Mayberry) North Carolina and was a resident of San Diego County for over 69 years, most of that in Poway. He joined the Navy in 1948 and served aboard the USS Owen (DD536) between WWII and the Korean War as a Ships Serviceman.

Already an accomplished Barber, he went to work for the Naval Exchange, as a Barber, at the 32 nd Street Naval Station in San Diego, where he worked until his retirement in 1984. In 1953, after his Navy service, Rudy married Barbara Jean Davison. They remained married for 57 years, until her passing in 2010. Rudy really enjoyed his 38 years of retirement. He enjoyed collecting, just about everything, and gardening. He had a wonderful sense of humor and will be sorely missed by Family, Friends and Neighbors.

Rudy is survived by 3 sisters in North Carolina, Betty Jo Cardwell, Wilma Hiatt and Brenda Jarrell-Clinard. He is also survived by his children, Kittie Jarrell, Karren Runyen, David Jarrell, Dan Jarrell, 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

A private Internment, with Military Honors, will be held at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido, CA.  A Memorial Service will be held at Moody's Funeral Home, with Internment at Ivy Green Cemetery, both in Mount Airy, North Carolina, at a later date.
