Salvador R.
Uson Jr.
November 7, 1946 – March 29, 2026
Salvador R. Uson, Jr. aka Yong, Dad, Lolo, Sal (November 7, 1946 – March 29, 2026)
Yong passed away on March 29, 2026, in San Diego, CA. He was 79.
Yong was born in the Philippines in 1946, the 4th son to Guadalupe and Salvador. He was the "baby" of the family and grew up in a household of boys and a menagerie of pets. He continued his education through MBA school, and held different roles post graduate school including educator, finance executive, and film distributor. He and his wife, Rubia, permanently immigrated to the United States with their daughter, Joy, in 1979. The family lived in Chicago and New York before finally settling in California where their son Davy was born.
In earlier years, Yong was an avid tennis player. For a period, he was a hobby gardener, who was certain that exotic fruit trees would thrive under his care in Southern California. Yong was a collector of many things throughout his life. At different stages he enjoyed stamps, Snoopy memorabilia, Hallmark ornaments, and watches. Lots and lots of watches. He was an animal lover, with an exceptional fondness for dogs. His favorites were Sneezy, Oscar, Theodora, Bully, and 4.5-year-old grand puppy Saint. He was also partial to grand cat, Brainiac.
He was a devoted husband. He took great pride in being a parent, always stressing the importance of family and education. The joy of his life was his two grandsons, Mason (15) and Matthew (11), constantly bragging about their accomplishments no matter how big or small. In the past years, he had reconnected with childhood friends over email and group texts, inevitably reliving their glory days.
Yong was preceded in death by his parents, Salvador and Guadalupe, beloved brothers Joe, Tony, and Pablo, sisters-in-law Nena, Ting, and Bella. He will be thrilled to reunite with them all especially the "gossip brothers." He is survived by Rubia, his wife of over 50 years, children Joy (Mike) and Davy, grandsons Mason and Matthew, nieces and nephews Jennifer, Michael, Christine, and Anthony, and finally his cherished big brother Manoling.
Viewing and vigil will take place on Friday, April 10, from 10am – 2pm at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary located at 13243 Poway Road, Poway, CA 92064. Vigil service will begin at 1pm.
