Saturnino Tila
Borromeo
April 7, 1943 – June 6, 2024
Saturnino was born on April 7, 1943, in Mangaldan Pangasinan, Philippines. He passed away on June 6, 2024, in the ICU at UCSD in La Jolla, California, at the age of 81. Saturnino Tila Borromeo was lovingly called Ninoy by those closest to him back home in the Philippines. He was dubbed Romy here in the States by his shipmates, who had trouble pronouncing his first and last name. He dreamed of a better life for his parents and siblings. When he had the chance to join the US Navy, he jumped on it. This decision changed his life and many others in his family, for generations to come. After completing his bootcamp at NTC in Point Loma, he returned to the Philippines in 1968 to marry his girlfriend of 8 years.
Saturnino was a hard worker. He served 21 years in the US Navy and could have retired then, but he continued to work for a short time at the Commissary in Miramar before landing his job at Sony in Rancho Bernardo. He worked another 8 years for Sony and decided to retire early. His dream in retirement was to return to the Philippines and build a house out there where he and his wife would spend time living between that home and their home in San Diego.
In his spare time, Saturnino enjoyed gardening, working on cars, and spending time at home with his family. He loved babysitting his granddaughters and going to their sports activities, such as softball, soccer, and volleyball. He also loved to watch them perform in their dance recitals and even sing and act in plays. Saturnino's grandbabies were his pride and joy.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rosalinda Estrella Borromeo, his three daughters, Leslie Estrella Borromeo, Irene Borromeo Domingo, and Sharlene Estrella Borromeo, as well as two of his greatest gifts in life (who were often spoiled by him) his grandbabies Aundrea Borromeo Domingo and Alyssa Borromeo Domingo. He is also survived by his siblings Jorge Borromeo, Jaime Borromeo, Rosing Borromeo Cabrera, Erlinda Borromeo Aquino, Emma Borromeo Peneverde, Adeling Borromeo Garcia, and Boy Borromeo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arcadio Borromeo, who passed away on July 1,1975; his mother, Feliciana Tila Borromeo, who passed away on May 16, 1993; and his sisters Socorro "Coring" Borromeo Beja on September 25,1969, Emeteria "Betty" Borromeo Sta. Mina on December 20, 2013, Pacita Borromeo Francisco on June 9, 2019, and Aurie Borromeo Gomez on January 18, 2022.
Saturnino will be remembered for his love and dedication to his family, his kindness towards others, and his unwavering strength. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
