Shirley Ann Popper passed away at her home in San Diego, CA on February 25, 2026 with her loving family by her side. She was born October 27, 1949 in Springfield, MN to Rueben and Irene Dommer, both of whom passed away in 2023. Shirley was 76 years old.

Shirley spent much of her adult life as a caregiver for her daughter Stephanie. She also worked at Miramar College for 12 years and was a job coach at Northern Illinois Association in St. Charles, IL. She volunteered at the Seven Oaks Library since 2010 and was an active member of the Mira Mesa Moose Lodge #2108 since 1996. Shirley was known for her kind and giving spirit and sense of humor. She welcomed everyone she met as a friend and she will be greatly missed.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ronald; their daughters Stephanie and Chena, all of San Diego, CA; brother Gary (Jean) Dommer of Apple Valley, MN; sister Julie Abbott of Burbank, IL; sister-in-law Cyndy Dommer of Elmhurst, IL; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Roger Dommer of Elmhurst, IL in 2003.
