April 26, 1940 – June 25, 2021
Stephen Richard Lydon, second generation San Diegan, passed on June 25th, 2021. Steve was born to Betty Elizabeth and Richard Wood Lydon on April 26, 1940. He attended Alice Birney Elementary, Roosevelt Jr. High, and San Diego High School, class of 58, and San Diego State University.
He was an Eagle Scout, played varsity baseball, football and sang in Mr. Maxwell's choir at San Diego High School. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at San Diego State University. Steve enlisted in the military on November 8th, 1969, where he was in charge of 600 cadets at Lackland Air Force Base. Then he was stationed in Alaska.
His first son, Jowell was born in 1964. He joined the financial world in the mid-seventies. Within a few years, he married and had two more sons, Chris and Robby. Little league became the family event. In later years, as young adults, he would lose both his younger sons. He devoted many hours to MADD, and then became an active member of the Hillcrest Lions club. He became president of the club following in his father's footsteps. He loved golf, chess, camping, fishing, science fiction and his sons. He also was treasurer of the 58 San Diego Alumni class.
A celebration of life will be held on August 12th at 2 pm at Marina Village 1936 Quivira Way, San Diego, CA 92109 in the Starboard room.
He is survived by his longtime friend and partner Carol Jean Spicer, his son Jowell and sister-in-law Joanie Lydon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Hillcrest Mission Valley Lions Club PO Box 3365, San Diego, 92163.
