Đỗ Thị Tân-Mỹ (May Helfrick) passed away in La Jolla, CA on September 18, 2019. Tân-Mỹ was born in Saigon, South Vietnam to Binh & Rot Đỗ on July 2, 1954. She was 65 years old.
Tân-Mỹ earned a bachelor's degree in nursing and worked as an LVN. She began her career working in orthopedic surgery at Kaiser hospital and most recently provided care at DaVita Dialysis Center. Tân-Mỹ was a caring nurse for over 35 years.
She loved to garden and had a wonderful green thumb. She enjoyed doing word searches and loved to cook. Tan-My was a member of the Vietnamese Seventh-day Adventist Church and was also active in the Tierrasanta Seventh-day Adventist Church.
She is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, John Helfrick, Jr. of San Diego, CA.; mother Rot Đỗ of National City, CA.; brothers Trong Đỗ, Tri Đỗ and Liem Đỗ all of San Diego, CA and Tuong Đỗ of Portland, OR. She leaves behind many extended family and friends who will miss her.
Viewing will be held at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 from 4 to 8pm. A funeral service celebrating Tân-Mỹ's life will be officiated by Pastor Gary McCary at Poway Church of Christ chapel, 10am Thursday, September 26 th . Interment will immediately follow at Dearborn Memorial Park.
