Valmar "Val" Bruehl Komin passed away in San Diego, CA on November 27, 2022. She was 85 years old.  Val was born in 1937 in Chicago, Illinois to Bob and Mildred Price.

Val graduated with a bachelor's degree from Mundelein College and worked for more than 40 years as a middle school teacher. She taught at Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Chicago and spent 20 years at St. Michael's Catholic School in Poway, California before retiring.

In 1989, Val and her mother Mildred (then aged 79) embarked on an adventure of a lifetime and moved from Chicago to start a second life in San Diego. Val was an avid world traveler, loved to play bridge and Rummikub, and was a wonderful watercolor painter. She was very active in her senior community serving on the Executive Council at Casa de las Campanas, where she had resided for the past five years. Most of all, Val loved spending time with her friends, taking a class, having lunch, or spending the day shopping — even if she didn't buy anything.

Val is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Peggy Bruehl & Paul Strupp of Boulder, CO. She was preceded in death by her husband John Peter Bruehl in 1982, and her second husband Edward John Komin in 2014.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Church at 10:30 am, Tuesday December 13, 2022 followed by a reception in the church hall. Private interment will take place at Dearborn Memorial Park.
