Vito
Bucaro
September 15, 1935 – October 24, 2023
Vito Bucaro, a beloved husband, father, grand-father, great grand-father, brother, and uncle, passed away at home, on October 24, 2023, at the age of 88 in Rancho Bernardo, California.
Vito was born in a small town outside of Palermo, Sicily called Altavilla Milicia. He was the second child born to Santo Bucaro and Margherita Genualdi in 1935. He grew up with four siblings, Maria and Michael, who have since passed and is survived by his sisters Vivian and Margherita.
To his immediate family, he became the primary provider and caretaker, leaving school at a young age to work and help support his family, and later, at the age of 19, bringing them all to America to make a better life.
Vito adored his wife, Josephine. She was also born in Altavilla Milicia. He proposed to her before he left for America, and promised her when he earned enough money he would return to Italy to marry her. Two years later, Vito returned and they married on July 7, 1957. It would be two and a half more years before Vito was able to bring Josephine back to America.
Once they were finally together in America, they became partners in construction, and there was nothing they couldn't do together when they put their minds to it.
Vito will be forever loved and remembered by his children – Margherita, and her husband Jerry, Maria, and Vito. In true Vito fashion, he helped build each of their first homes and continued to show up for countless other projects throughout their lives.
Building homes was not only Vito's career, but the greatest gift he could offer to his family. The homes he built for his family were places to come together, eat pasta or homemade pizza, share his garden fruits and vegetables, watch the Lakers, or play a game of bocce.
His family grew, grandchildren arrived, and he loved them in a way only their "Papa" could. He had six grandchildren; Matthew and wife Amber, Jacob and wife Lindsay, Daniel and wife Renee, Michael and wife Taryn, Catherine and fiancé Richie, and little Daniel; and six great grandchildren; Elise, Noah, Maggie, Owen, Aiden, and Luca.
Vito was also a beloved friend to many. His friends became his extended family, and he was very blessed to have a group of people with similar backgrounds to play cards, win bocce tournaments, and share a meal with. Vito will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His tremendous work ethic and love for his family and friends will forever live on in the memories he created and the stories he shared.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all those who have offered their support, condolences, and love during this difficult time.
