Dr. Wallace Eberle Good, age 93, passed from this earth to Heaven on Tuesday June 7, 2022. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
Wally, as he was called, was born to Forrest and Ruby Good on May 1, 1929, in Staten Island, New York. His dad, Forrest, was a Methodist minister, and as a child the family moved from New York to Kansas. Wally graduated from Marion High School in Marion, Kansas, where he was senior class president, played football, basketball, and track and sang bass in various choral groups. Upon high school graduation, he went to Taylor University in Indiana where he also played football and basketball and sang in the choir. He majored in history and graduated in 1950.
In the fall of 1950, he attended the University of Kansas and earned his Master's Degree in Social Studies. Wally spent his career in education. He was a teacher, coach, high school principal, and president of schools and colleges throughout Kansas. He attended law school at Stanford University and earned his doctorate in education from Oklahoma State University.
He was also an academic dean at Santa Ana College and El Camino College in Southern California. In addition to his career in education, Wally and his Dad farmed in Kansas and North Dakota for many years.
Wally was an active and founding member of St. Gregory the Great Parish and participated in the weekly Wednesday Breakfast Club. He served on the Parish Council as a lector and Eucharistic Minister. In addition, he acted as a voluntary Navy Chaplain. As someone with a spirit of adventure, Wally was a world traveller. He especially enjoyed visiting family in Europe and in Mexico. He was a talented carpenter and wood worker and could fix anything and everything. He was an avid fisherman, enjoying both fresh water and deep sea fishing. Wally loved reading and watching and discussing movies with his movie group. He loved spending time with his family and friends above all.
Wally is survived by his wife Marta; his children, Beverly McGowan (Mike), Nathan Good (April), Lisa Counts (John), Anne Roby (Brock), Tom Good, and David Hunt; his grandchildren, Kacey Crawford (Cameron), Mike McGowan (Magdey), Aaron Good, Forrest Good (Bridget), Ian Counts, Barrett Roby, Mia Counts Lynch (Ryan), Nick Roby (Christina), Megan Good, Diana Waters Good, Jonathan Hunt, and Donovan Hunt; his great-grandchildren Evan Good, Renee Good, Tenleigh Crawford, Logan Good, Max McGowan, and Beau Lynch.
A memorial service will be held at St. Gregory the Great in Poway, CA on Tuesday, June 14 at noon. Services will be live streamed online at St. Gregory the Great's website: https://stgg.org/welcome/mass/ . In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Father Joe's Villages, a homeless ministry in San Diego ( my.neighbor.org ).
