Walter Eric
Troy
January 20, 1927 – February 8, 2024
Walter E Troy passed from this Earth on February 8, 2024 at the age of 97 after a long and joy filled life. Born January 20. 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. Walter was born to Kostek and Mary Trojanowski, he was one of 9 children.
He joined the US Navy during WWII at the age of 17 and was assigned duty aboard the USS Skagit in the Pacific Theater. Although he never saw action his ship was nearby to witness the signing of the Treaty between the USA and Japan.
Wally married his beautiful wife of 74 years on October 1, 1949. They proceeded to start their family, legally changed their surname to Troy, and in 1958 packed up the family and moved west to San Diego to begin a fresh new life. In 1961 they bought their home in Poway.
"Wally" was always a kid at heart which made him a wonderful, funny, and playful Dad and Grandpa. Wally often took his family exploring "the road less traveled". Back in the 60s and 70s it was easy to get off the beaten path around San Diego County, and, boy did we ever! Weekends usually involved discovery and exploration of lesser known spots that were the area's hidden treasures. On longer vacations we travelled to National Parks and other States. He enjoyed fishing, camping and swimming whenever possible with his family and later his 7 grandchildren. Grandpa Wally taught all of his grandchildren to swim.
He was always ready to have a good time and sing a good song. His favorite was "My Way" and that is how he lived his life.
He was a parishioner at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Poway and a member of the Poway Elks and Poway VFW. Disabilities in his later years limited his active involvement. In his younger days he was an active member of the Poway chapter of Young Republicans. Throughout his working years in San Diego County he worked as a sound technician and was a member of the IBEW.
He was a man who worked hard, enjoyed life, and wanted everybody to have a good time along with him.
Walter Troy is survived by his wife Janet, 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. We all loved him and he will be greatly missed.
