William Patrick
Curran, Jr.
December 10, 1940 – June 23, 2023
William "Bill" P. Curran, Jr., of Poway died Friday, June 23, 2023, peacefully surrounded by family at his home after a long illness. He was 82 years old. Bill was born on December 10, 1940, in Antigo, WI. He was the son of William P. Curran, Sr., and Grace Brennan Curran. He married Donna Olson on June 29, 1969, in Pasadena, CA.
Bill had a basketball scholarship to the University of Wisconsin at Steven's Point. From there he attended Marquette University Medical School. He came to Mercy Hospital in San Diego for his internship where he met Donna while she was in the Nursing School. He served as Captain in the Air Force from 1967-1969. He then completed his residency in Orthopedics at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
He and Donna returned to San Diego and joined the Orthopedic Medical Group in 1973. He specialized in Sports Medicine, working with professional and collegiate teams. Later in his career, Bill focused his work in the Medical/Legal field. He so enjoyed his profession, and he was able to use his skills in various ways for 50 years.
Bill was an avid Green Bay Packers fan as he grew up near Green Bay and his father was an original season ticket holder. His annual trips to Lambeau Field with family and friends were especially memorable. Bill enjoyed golfing, swimming and walks on the beach.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 54 years, Donna; daughter Stephanie Curran of Apex, NC and son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Emily Curran of Redondo Beach, CA; 6 grandchildren, Ryan, Lauren, Lila, Vera, Vince, and Nelson; sisters Margaret Curran, Kathleen Rebholz and Mary Hilger. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Michael Curran.
Bill loved God, his family and friends, his Cocker Spaniels and the Green Bay Packers. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. But most of all, he loved his wife, Donna. He prepared his loved ones for his departure from this earth and said he had a GREAT life and that he was ready to see his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023, 2:00pm at Bill's home church: Emmanuel Faith Community Church, 639 East 17th Avenue, Escondido CA 92025
