Making Arrangements
Poway-Bernardo Mortuary is a full-service funeral home providing appropriate services for every family's needs. We serve all faiths and cultures and are committed to honoring each family's wishes.
How Much Does a Funeral Cost?
The cost of a funeral is varied by the personal choices you make. The cost of any services and items you choose will be carefully and thoroughly explained before you purchase them. You may view and download our General Price List or pick up a copy at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary during our business hours. You can also call us at
(858) 748-4101.
The arrangement conference is a meeting between you and our funeral arranger to plan a funeral for your loved one. We'll help you understand your options and pricing, and we can answer any questions you may have.
At the arrangement conference, you will share information with our funeral arranger that is needed for essential paperwork such as death certificates, obituaries, and insurance matters. You will also make decisions regarding how you would like to honor your loved one and decide what type of services are the best fit for you and your family.
In order to help you prepare for the arrangement conference, here is a list of items to bring with you:
- Advanced Health Care Directive or Durable Power of Attorney for Health.- We will need this if you are not the legal next of kin
- Social Security Number or Social Security Card - We will notify the Social Security Administration of the death of your loved one on your behalf. We also need the Social Security number for the death certificate.
- Vital Statistics - We will need information about you and your loved one. This includes: your loved one's birthdate, address, birth state/country, education level, if they were ever in the Armed Forces, their mother's first, middle & maiden name, father's first, middle & last name, each parent's state/country of birth, as well as your name and address.
- DD-214 Discharge Papers - If your loved one was in the military, we will need their honorable discharge papers.
Other Considerations
- What's the best way to honor the person who has passed away?
- What kind of funeral service is the most appropriate for your loved one? Should it be simple or elaborate, public or private, religious or secular?
- Where and when will services be held?
- Do you want to publish an obituary, and if so, who will write it?
- Do you need to choose a cemetery or other final resting place?
- Do you need to purchase and make arrangements for a monument or marker?
- Who will participate in the service? Will there be musicians or speakers?
- Do you want floral arrangements for the service or memorial? If so, what flowers are appropriate?
- Will the remains be buried or cremated?
- Will the body of your loved one be present at the funeral service?
- If there is a casket, will it be open or closed?
